A resident of Yarka was charged Monday with the murder of his sister in their mother’s home last month.
According to the indictment filed in Haifa District Court, Roni Havish, 39, used a club to beat his sister Ronit to death on May 11. Havish had refused to let his 42-year-old sister leave the house unaccompanied or have a cellphone after her divorce two years ago.
Ronit had moved back to her mother’s house after the divorce. On May 11, when the two siblings were in the kitchen, they got into an argument during which Roni warned her to “shut her mouth” or he’d beat her up. At this point, according to the indictment, the defendant decided to kill his sister.
At some point the accused left the house, went to his car, removed a club from it and returned. He hit his sister on the head, face, and other parts of her body for two minutes. The sister fought back, stabbing him with a knife in his hand and thigh. Afterward the brother ran out of the house and sought help from passersby. A doctor summoned to the scene pronounced the woman dead.
Since the beginning of the year, nine women have been killed in Israel by a relative, partner, or ex.
